Supporting access to legal, sustainable and enjoyable trails for mountain bikers.

Advocacy

The primary role of the HTA is trail advocacy. Our area of focus is the face of Mt Wellington and the foothills around Hobart, bordered by Mt Nelson and Knocklofty Reserve. We hope to work with council and land managers within this area to see our vision become a reality and to improve the experience for riders both local and from further afield.

Below you can view our current and previous submissions and advocacy campaigns. We highly encourage feedback and support from all mountain bike riders and community members, either through our forum, via e-mail or at our regular group meetings.

Current Campaigns

Greater Hobart Mountain Bike Plan

The HTA has been involved in the development of the Greater Hobart Mountain Bike Plan as a part of the plan’s ’working group’. We’ve been liaising with Clare Hester and hope to be directly involved with the creation of several loop trails in the South Hobart/Knocklofty area once the plan is completed and begins implementation.

Current status

The draft plan is currently open for public comment. It can be viewed on the Wellington Park website or at the council buildings in Hobart, Glenorchy, Kingborough and Clarence. Your contribution is important!

Tip Top

The current focus of the HTA is the repair, improvement and re-opening of the Tip Top trail. This popular mountain bike trail facing onto McRobbies gully was closed by Hobart City Council due to its illegitimate status. We feel that the trail is a vital part of the Hobart trail network and with a little work can be transformed into a highly enjoyable and sustainable trail.

Current status

The HTA have submitted a proposal the the HCC regarding the trail. A response was received to advise us that the trail would be given consideration under the upcoming Greater Hobart Mountain Bike Plan. Currently the HTA hopes to see the trail receive consideration and work at an earlier stage and we will be contacting the HCC in this regard.
